What is the Halo Code?
I’m Representing IECC work closely with institutions to assess existing policies and
procedure within work and education environments to identify potential gaps in conduct and opportunity for inclusion development. A prime example of progressive policy IECC have helped clients to enforce includes the Halo Code.
The Halo Code originates from the Halo Collective; a group of 30 black individuals who share similar experiences with suffering consistent bias when wearing natural afro-hairstyles.
The Halo Code, which can be enforced in all workplaces and schools, explicitly protects students and staff who come to school with natural hair and protective hairstyles associated with their racial, ethnic, and cultural identities.
By adopting the Halo Code, schools and businesses are proactively taking a stand to ensure that no member of their community faces barriers or judgments because of their Afro-textured hair.
Integrating the Halo Code into your workplace or school’s policy
IECC provide reliable policy consultancy to guide institutions through adapting and
enhancing their existing policies to promote true inclusivity. Once registered with the HaloCollective as an institution that has officially adopted the Halo Code, IECC will provide advice and logistic support to correctly write this new policy into code of conduct and ensure the values and terms of the Halo Code are upheld by all staff in everyday operations.
